The Karma Kitchen

Friday, October 28th, 2011

Imagine a restaurant where you don’t pay for your meal, but instead pay for the meal of the people following you.
You may feel that this “pay it forward” generosity might not last very long, however that isn’t the case.
In a handful of cities of around the United States, the chain of generosity at [...]

Michelle Is Fighting Back

Thursday, October 20th, 2011

Yesterday I wrote about Dewey Bozella, an American guy who was imprisoned for 26 years for a crime he did not commit, but he never gave up and serves as an inspiration to many.
Today I’m focussing on someone much closer to home.
At the age of 14 Michelle was raped at knifepoint. However, she was determined [...]

Never Give Up

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011

Matthew McConaughey tells the story of this year’s Arthur Ashe Award for courage winner, Dewey Bozella.

Dewey Bozella was locked up for 26 years, for a crime he did not commit. This is a story about the triumph of human spirit and living proof of the saying “never give up”.
This is one man’s journey to reclaim [...]

A Few Amendments To Community Centre Plans

Friday, October 14th, 2011

Previously I wrote about plans for a new community centre in Cheylesmore, Coventry.
Following some feedback from local residents, the architects, Vagdia and Holmes have made a few small changes to the designs.
The changes are mostly cosmetic with some additional landscaping with trees however one significant change was the point of access.
The main entry point [...]

Asda Campaign Commences

Monday, October 10th, 2011

I spotted these two billboards in Cheylesmore recently.

But these aren’t just billboards advertising some low prices. They are in fact the beginning of a campaign by Asda in support of its proposal to build a supermarket on land in Cheylesmore.
You might think that if Asda wanted you to support their new store proposal, they’d have [...]

Another Shop Bites The Dust

Monday, October 10th, 2011

A dark day for the Cheylesmore community as another shop closes its doors.

Heywood and Sons, the florist / fruiterer / greengrocer ceased trading on Saturday 1st October.
The note on the door states that it has closed due to an increase in rent.

Whilst increases in rents are never good, its an external cost that you [...]

Labour Newsletter Drops Through The Letterbox

Saturday, October 8th, 2011

The local Labour newsletter dropped onto the doormat a short while ago,  although calling it a newsletter is a bit of a stretch of the imagination.
Whilst they claim that they have mended the roads, as promised, all it really appears to be is two sides of paper pointing fingers at the Conservatives.

What [...]

Labour Support Business Closures And Job Losses In Coventry

Saturday, October 8th, 2011

At the last Cheylesmore Ward Forum I was somewhat surprised by the actions of Labour Councillor Harjinder Singh Sehmi as it appeared he wasn’t 100% behind plan to open a new community centre instead of an Asda.
So I sent him an email to discover what his position is.
I was even more astonished to receive a [...]
