Training and injuries
By Mike Ashworth | August 4, 2010
Some wise words from Andrew Bellamy of Adur Osteopaths and ShoulderCentric about training and injuries.
I’m often asked when to take notice of pain when returning to fitness after injury.
If in doubt take profesional advice, but, as a broad rule of thumb, the following works alongside common sense;
- If it hurts a bit while you are doing it, but stops when you do - grit your teeth and get on with it.
- If it hurts for 10-20 minutes after stopping - it’s a signal to be careful.
- Still hurting 1-2 hours later - you may have done some damage. Sit back and assess which element may have been ‘at fault’.
- Longer than this, rest and get advice, (but bear in mind that most times even if it FEELS worse, you prob have not done any actual damage).
