Helping others

By Mike Ashworth | March 31, 2010

An interesting status update from Paulo Coelho (author of  The Alchemist) on Facebook a short while ago….

“Some people always want to help others. Just so that they can feel better than they really are.”

I feel that once we enter the realms of doing something for another because of something we get in return, be it money, help, a good feeling about yourself or some other thing then we are talking about trading and/or bartering as opposed to a selfless act.

I feel that we should serve others because it is the right thing to do.

Often we do something for someone, then feel angry when the other person doesn’t even say thankyou.  If you expect or anticipate that thankyou, then its bartering / trading again.  I know this because this is how I used to be until I realised that other possibilities existed.

Serve and move on…..
