Brighton and Hove festival of shopping

I popped into town earlier and happened to notice a banner across North Street proclaiming April to be a “Festival of Shopping” in Brighton and Hove.
I’m a big fan of smaller businesses and in the case of retail many have had a tough time however i’m not certain that a festival of shopping is what we need right now.
Isn’t it possible that an orgy of retail therapy is one of the reasons we have a collective personal debt in the UK of approximately £1.5 Trillion Pounds.
Visit Brighton have billed this as a new festival celebrating Brighton’s diverse shopping scene - a shopaholics dream!
I feel that further encouragement by Brighton and Hove Council to spend beyond our means isn’t required when a shopping festival already takes place 365 days a a year.
