Bolton and Manchester United

By Mike Ashworth | March 30, 2010

My niece took her boy to his first ever football match at the weekend, which should have been a memorable occasion. It was, but for all the wrong reasons.

Right in front of where they were seated a fight kicked off between rival fans after United’s third goal. It appears that a number of Manchester United fans had acquired tickets to the home seating area as the away tickets had all sold out.

They were both terrified as you can imagine. I thought “thats a bit out of order” so emailed both teams to share my concerns with them.

Bolton replied, sounding fairly contrite as you’d imagine, it being their ground where the trouble occurred, and by way of compensating for the incident will be sending my niece’s son a signed photo of his favourite player. Nice one.

Manchester United on the other hand, didn’t really give a damn. Their response pretty much said as it didn’t happen at Old Trafford they have absolutely no comment to make about how members of my family were left feeling after their fans infiltrated the home seating area.

Thumbs up for Bolton.

Thumbs very much down to Man Utd…..

It wouldn’t have hurt for Manchester United to acknowledge that fans of of their club had been involved in an altercation.

Their response showed a level of arrogance that unfortunately many have come to expect from the premier league.

Sympathy and empathy go a long way in my book. “Must try harder” is a phrase that springs to mind…….

It is a sad state of affairs when someones heroes can shatter any sort of illusion you may have about them. It’s also very off putting I think and can make you see them in a different light to how they were percieved in the first place. If you watch Man Utd for long enough though, you can see a fair amount of arrogance within certain members of the team. Now Chelsea, you can see it in all of them.
