Groundhog day 2010

By Mike Ashworth | February 2, 2010

2nd February and what would you know, it’s Groundhog day.

You may have seen the film Groundhog Day, starring Bill Murray.

In the film, Murray plays Phil Connors, an egocentric TV weatherman who, during a hated assignment covering the annual Groundhog Day event in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, finds himself repeating the same day over and over again.

After indulging in both hedonism and and numerous suicide attempts, he begins to re-examine his life and priorities.

After becoming a different and better person than he was on 1st February, Phil awakes and finds that the day has moved on, and so has his life.

What would you do if you, like Phil, were stuck in one place, and every day was exactly the same and that nothing you did mattered?

Perhaps you find the same old routine getting you down? Maybe you’re finding it hard to keep motivated? Bored? Depressed? Have to fight to get up in the morning?

I used to be one of these people, the “Friday people”, awaiting an early departure to go and get bladdered in the pub, loathing Monday mornings, feeling that I was on a treadmill that I had virtually no control over.

That’s all in the past, I woke up to new possibilities.  And you can too.

Sure, it’s not easy. Life isn’t supposed to be though.  Moaning, as I often used to do, wondering why life is not easy etc. I was told that I could be introduced to a group of people that were not troubled by these things.

Imagine my surprise when I was shown a graveyard. Yep that’s when you can expect it all to get easier.

None of us know exactly when we will die however we do know that once born we are on a timer to that final and fatal  moment.  If the grim reaper showed up at your door because your time was up do you think that your friends and family would say “it’s OK, he was where he/she wanted to be in life”.

No?

Then perhaps it’s time to start moving towards where you want to be, right now.
