What do you do?

By Mike Ashworth | January 16, 2010

I was chatting with a friend the other day and he recounted a story about a friend of his who was at a party.

When someone asked him “What do you do?” he replied he worked at American Express.

Now I know for a fact that he is fantastic at his job however this isn’t really what he is all about.

He realised this himself when he was chatting with my friend sometime afterwards.

You see, this guy is a magistrate, it’s not something you do for fun, it’s a calling.

He is also a writer and published author, an authority on Shakespeare.

These are his passions, these are “what he does”, these are the things that define him.

These are the things you do even if they were no money in them at all.

Are we embarrassed to reveal our true passions in life?  Afraid to admit what we are becuase of how others may judge us, or perhaps being seen as one of “those people”, happy about their life and existence, their journey in life, if you will.
