An uneasy feeling
By Mike Ashworth | January 18, 2010
Yesterday I was chatting with the son of one of my friends about console games etc.
He was getting quite animated about his love of Call of Duty - Modern Warfare 2, which seems to be all the rage these days.
Fair enough I thought, however his enthusiasm knew no boundaries as he went on to explain in particularly graphic detail how he had a fondness for the knife in the game rather than other weapons.
At this point he was then demonstrating to me the correct way to knife someone for maximum kill effect. Apparently just stabbing someone is so outdated, you must use a slashing motion instead!
I must admit I felt a little uneasy about this. He is after all only 10 years old!
Maybe it’s just a sign of the times however I cant help thinking the priorities are all wrong.
Recently he’d spent a week away on a school trip at a fantastic outdoor experience centre for kids.
It was nigh on impossible to get much out of him at all about this whole week away, which I felt should have been the experience to get animated and excited about, yet the knife and the “sit in the lounge whilst the world revolves” gets more attention.
Something is very wrong.
