International optimism day
By Mike Ashworth | January 16, 2010

Can you believe it, it’s that time of year again?
The party season has ended, we’ve all eaten and drunk too much, Santa is months away, summer is either a distant memory or sweating your nuts off, the bills for Christmas are about to slam onto the mat and all those resolutions you were so keen on 3 weeks ago are now looking like a right hassle…
With all this going on you could be forgiven for thinking that the 3rd Monday in January might be a bit of a downer, the “Most Depressing Day of the Year”, a really Blue Monday even… but hang on, wait a second, what it actually means is…
ITS INTERNATIONAL OPTIMISM DAY AGAIN!
Time to get those smiles on, wear something colourful, bake a cake or buy some sweets and get out there to cheer up those around you. Get together with the people you care about and have a fantastic fun day.
Wherever you are in this wonderful world make sure you try and achieve the following:
-Write a list of simple things that make you happy and share it
-Write down 3 things your grateful for
-Call someone you haven’t spoken to for ages
-Say hello to someone you see everyday, but never speak to
-Say yes to something you’d normally say no to
-Do something random and lovely for a complete stranger
-Spread the word and get as many of your friends to do the same
Then tell the Optimists Society what you get up to…
