an idea for the folks who clean cars at tesco

By Mike Ashworth | December 1, 2009

I was shopping up at  Tesco at Holmbush, Shoreham-By-Sea the other day and noticed that a lot of the crew who clean cars in the car park, whilst people are inside shopping, were just stood about doing nothing.

Here is an idea for them.

Why don’t they go round the car park and clean the windscreen and wing mirrors of cars for nothing, and leave a nice little card to say they’ve done it (maybe even with a discount for a full car clean next time they pop in)

Or perhaps they could offer to clean the vehicles belonging to a charity or a school for free.  Again, this is something newsworthy, creates good PR for them and deals with the downtime, when they are just stood about.

A lot of people’s initial reaction would be “why do something for nothing”.

This is a fair comment however the truth is that they are not earning any money if they aren’t cleaning cars.

I bet though, that if they carried out the idea, it could generate some great word of mouth marketing, lead to more people having the car cleaned whilst at Tesco, rather than elsewhere (which is surely the objective of the folks who work there).
