what is it about the green party in brighton

By Mike Ashworth | November 16, 2009

Can’t get my head round the actions of some members of the Green Party in Brighton.

Couple of months, whilst the Labour Conference was taking place in Brighton a meeting took place called “Convention of the left”.

Caroline Lucas, MEP and leader of the Green Party was in attendance, along with other green supporters.

It was a fairly civilised affair, people were getting up and saying their bit and people were allowing them to.

That is until someone dared to criticise the Green Party.

Oh boy, I’ve never seen so many of them (Caroline Lucas included) leap down the throat of the person speaking.

So stunned were many of the people in attendance that they shouted down the Greens with “let the person have their say”.

The Greens realising they’d made a bit of a bungle shut up and let the person speak, but it was a bit of an eye opener that’s for sure. They really don’t like criticism at all.

Perhaps, working from a platform of “we’re here to save the planet” they perhaps believe they are beyond criticism as anyone who does so must want the planet to burn?

And yesterday evening I witnessed Brighton Green Councillor Vicky Wakefield Jarrett disengage with a supporter who wanted some information from her about a useful organisation.

Vicky had become a fan of an organisation on Facebook and I was interested in discovering more about that organisation as it would be relevant to an area of Business I am likely to be involved with next year.

The question I posed was pretty innocuous, along the lines of “that looks like an interesting organisation, I checked them out however I couldn’t see where they were located, do you know?”

Result, a response I cant read as she removed me as a contact. Then again, she did this at 1.30 in the morning……

Perhaps they don’t want people to know about these useful Organisations after all?

One of the things they need to realise that effective Marketing of any product, service or organisation comes as a result of getting people to know, like and then trust you.

They’ve just taken a big step backward in my view and seem just as arrogant as any other Political Party.

    Dear Mike

I’m sorry to hear you feel that way. Nobody’s perfect and I know that us Greens are definitely guilty of being very passionate about our cause.

Knowing many Greens well, I don’t think arrogant is a word that fairly describes them. But that’s your view and you’re absolutely entitled to it.

If there’s anything I can do to help then just get in touch.

    All the best,
Jason Kitcat, Green City Councillor for Regency Ward

    Hi Jason,

Thanks for responding to my observations about the Green Party in Brighton and Hove.

Interestingly, Brighton Green Councillor, Vicky Wakefield Jarrett has now re-requested to be my friend on facebook, but no accompanying message or anything really, explaining her actions in the first place, don’t see why I should be bothered, can you?

Now that Brighton and Hove is slipping down the eco league perhaps they’d all do well to start taking a bit more notice of things and people around them.
