From big mick to fit mick: my goals

By Mike Ashworth | September 29, 2009

Following on from my recent post where I outlined the news I received regarding my health I’m going to share my goals with regard to my health / fitness.

My focus is to attain and retain a reduction in both size and weight. The retain bit is important as many people undertake a program such as this, however they end up putting the weight back on, sometimes more than they lost. It’s also about lifestyle changes rather than short-term measures.

Waist: I am aiming to get my waist measurement back to 34″ -36″. something I had about 20 years ago!

Chest: Lose the moobs and firm up, 44″ would be just about right I reckon.

Stomach: Not looking for 6 pack etc however some definition would be cool.

Arms: Tone and strengthen.

Legs: Tone and strengthen. Particular emphasis on my rather enormous thighs.

Arse: Lose my big ass, fairly simple really. buns of steel, here we come….

Overall: The mantra is slim, tone, reduce, strengthen. I aim to improve overall levels of strength, fitness, stamina etc.

Weight: Many height/weight/frame charts state that my ideal weight for my height, which is 6 foot, should be about 84Kg (185lbs) or just over 13 stone. My trainer believes this is an overly aggressive target and around 14 to 15 stone will suffice.

Body Mass Index (BMI): Aiming for a maximum BMI of 25

Body Fat Percentage : Aiming for somewhere between 17% and 25%

Waist Hip ratio (WHR): 0.9 to 1.0

Although I am concentrating my efforts on training and diet to reach my goals outlined above the idea is that sport / fitness becomes something more pervasive in my life than at present.

I love the idea of weekends away and holidays spent cycling, trekking, kayaking, climbing, dancing and other such activities and this is what I’m aiming for.

Bring it on…….
