some predictions for 2009

We’ll think more about the morality of our decisions. Rethinking our values. Refocus on what gives us the greatest rewards in our lives.
People will contribute more to the community in which they live.
People who have led “keeping up with the joneses” type lives will run a greater risk of mental illness, such as depression and substance abuse.
People will question whether the attitude that it’s only through our jobs (and the money it brings) that we have any basis for well being.
An increase in escapist culture. Musicals, serious drama, fiction.
Fewer long haul holidays. More holidays in the UK. Especially adventure type holidays, bushcraft, tree camping.
More people will choose to get engaged (because people crave more security in uncertain times)
Their will be fewer divorces (due to financial implications) but more affairs.
We’ll go out less but we’ll visit the kind of places that are really special for anniversaries / birthdays.
Support Organisations such as Samaritans, AA, NA, CA etc will experience an increase in calls.
More people will learn to cook properly.
Shoe repairers, clothing alterations and repair shops will do more business.
Companies who sell products and services to do with personal growth / development will see an increase in customers.
People will shun gyms in favour of more fun ways of getting fit such as kettle bell training and outdoor military fitness type exercise.
Increases in bartering of skills and services between people.
More people will write letters.
An increase in “promisary note” type presents.
More people will choose to donate their time to volunteering for a local charity.
Micro loans and peer to peer lending will flourish.
