Music sales are on the up

Despite what you may have heard about illegal downlaoding killing the music business, 2008 was a great year with music sales on the up.
Music sales in the US grew 10.5 percent overall during 2008, with online single-track sales growing by 27 percent.
CD as a format however is on the wane, the increases came from downloads and vinyl. Digital singles are very popular whilst full album downloads are not. This may be because some artists pad out albums with material that would not sell on its own merits. Individuals can now of course choose which tracks they want to buy and are losing interest in the full album format.
