Gardeners and garden owners unite to share food
By Mike Ashworth | May 3, 2009
There are many residents of Brighton & Hove who don’t have gardens but would like to grow their own food, and many other residents who have gardens but aren’t able to grow food, whether for time, knowledge or mobility reasons.
The Brighton and Hove Transition Initiative has joined forces with the Brighton and Hove food Partnership and intends to pair garden owners with gardeners who live in the same area of the city, so that the gardeners can grow food, and both can share the produce.
The scheme will begin on a wider scale in 2009, but at the moment they have 3 garden owners who are looking for 3 volunteer gardeners in particular areas of the city for a pilot scheme: Brunswick (Hove/Brighton border), Hangleton and Hollingbury.
