A wacky way to reduce litter
By Mike Ashworth | May 3, 2009
This is an idea based on the rubbish bins used at the De Efteling Theme Park in Holland.
Create bins for the public which make comical gobbling or munching sounds when you put rubbish in them. Sound wacky? Of course it does, but it works.
Near the talking trash bins in The Efteling, you can find children looking for trash everywhere, for the simple reason that trash can make the bin talk. Very simple, very effective.
Got to be better than litter everywhere and also educates at a young age.
Wacky? yes. Naff? Some might say so. However those are often the ideas that work
I attempted to create some interest in these ideas with Brighton and Hove Council www.brighton-hove.gov.uk however I was wholly unsuccessful. They didn’t think their was any merit in even having a conversation about their feasability.
I also asked them about perhaps wrapping the unsightly large refuse bins located on the various streets around Brighton and Hove. Again, little interest was shown in improving the environment in which we live.
