A sobering experience

I spent a great day yesterday floating around some of the Artists Open Houses in Hove as part of the Brighton Festival. Had a thoroughly yummy bit of food from my mate Jimmy from the Bobby McGees who was running the barbecue at the Sprach Caffe in Holland Road before heading off to meet some other friends for a BBQ at the “secret park”. Many beers were drunk before I headed off home later in the evening.

On the way back home I spotted a few people assisting someone in the street who at first glance looked like he might be drunk. As I walked past I asked if everything was OK and if they needed any help. They told me that they had no idea who the bloke was and that they’d discovered him having a seizure in the road a few minutes previously and were concerned for him.

I helped this other guy with keeping him on his feet however the bloke was collapsing in our arms and then trying to stand up again so I told them that it would be best if we got him onto the pavement and into the recovery position.

We gently got him onto the floor and into the recovery position with my bag under his head. We weren’t sure if he could hear us or not however we continued talking to him, letting him know that help was on its way.

The ambulance arrived really quickly (top marks to the 999 services) and they took over from us and got him off to hospital.

Incidents like this remind me of the fact that there are great people in the world who help others for no other reason than it is the right thing to do.
